Fierce, 9U All Stars eliminated from regional tournaments.

The Barren County Fierce 16-and-under softball team was eliminated from the Ohio Valley Babe Regional tournament in Fern Creek after two losses Saturday.

Barren fell in their first game of the day to Marinette Wisconsin, a team they beat the day before. The Fierce lost 1-0.

The Fierce faced off against Fern Creek in the afternoon, and trailed 3-0 throughout most of the game, before scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Taylor Owen pitched both games for the Fierce.

Manager Carl Zettlemoyer said many spectators and fellow coaches commented the team’s improvement from last year.

“A lot of people said we were 110 percent better than we were last year,” Zettlemoyer said.

The Fierce won the state tournament title at the Babe Ruth State Softball tournament at Beaver Trail Softball two weeks before.

The team consists of Megan Heisler, Haley Meyers, Megan Thomas, Gine Nichols, Morgan Wilson, Mackenzie Gore, Kayla Rivera, Owen, Shelby Briggs, Emily Walker, Morgan Eaton and Haley Fisher.

The Barren County 9-and-under All Stars were also eliminated from their tournament in Lexington.

Although the team survived the round-robin style pool play to advance to bracketed play, Barren fell short against Elizabethtown 3-2 on Sunday.

According to manager Les Wells, Barren had beat Elizabethtown twice at the state level, but couldn’t quite manage to get their offense started.

“We had a good run. The boys did real well,” Wells said. “It was just one of those days.”

Wells said the team committed only one fielding error the entire game and turned in a good pitching performance, but ultimately were unable to overcome Elizabethtown’s timely hitting.

Statistics on the game were not immediately available.

The team consists of Tanner Wright, Garrett Hyatt, Luke Wells, Dakota Basham, Colton Thomas, Isaac Reynolds, Matthew Jamison, Jacob Belcher, Brandon Reed, Andrew Gentry, Tanner Pace and Tyler Mosby.
